Smoky Grilled Hamburgers

Ready in Skill Level 1

Description

Delicious, smoky flavor permeates these easy-to-make burgers that are equally delicious on the grill or in a pan. Based on 1 lb. of beef it’s easily adjusted for servings of all sizes.

Ingredients

US Ingredient Metric
1 lb. lean ground beef 454 g
1 tablespoon olive oil 15 mL
1 tablespoon worcestershire sauce 15 mL
2 teaspoons liquid smoke 10 mL
1 tablespoon brown sugar, packed
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
1/2 teaspoon paprika
1/2 teaspoon salt

Directions

  1. Preheat your grill or pan for high heat.
  2. Add all ingredients to a large bowl and combine together. Ensure everything is evenly mixed, but do not overwork.
  3. Form beef into patties of desired size and thickness.
  4. Grill patties, turning once, for about 8-10 minutes, or to desired degree of doneness. The internal temperature should be at 180°F (82°C). Serve with favorite condiments and trimmings.

Tips & Tricks

  1. To help achieve a tender burger, be sure not to over work the meat when mixing or forming your patties. Squeezing and overworking the beef will usually result in a tough, chewy texture.
  2. While grilling, don’t press the burger down with a spatula. Doing so releases the fat which not only reduces the flavor and juiciness of the burger, it usually causes nasty flare-ups and itself does little to speed up cooking.
